I went on a solo overnight camping trip to Glas Allt Shiel Bothy at Loch Muick, Aberdeenshire. The bothy is around the back of the main house.
I parked at the Spittal of Glen Muick car park, which charges £5 per day. The parking machines allow you to select how many days you want to stay for and they take contactless payments.
From the car park it is a very pleasant, flat walk to the bothy, which is about 4 miles up Loch Muick. I carried in some firewood for the bothy stove.
There isn’t a great deal to do at Glas Allt Shiel bothy, I wandered around for a bit, relaxed and cooked (feta & tomato pitta breads, venison salad and mushrooms on toast).
There was an abundance of wildlife in the area around Loch Muick, a saw deer, an adder, newts, frogs and fish! It is. beautiful part of Aberdeenshire and a place I will return to often.
The bothy itself is very cozy with an upstairs sleeping area and even a composting toilet. There is no mobile signal in the area but I consider that s good thing.
At weekends the bothy can be busy, so bring a tent. I went midweek and was lucky enough to have the bothy to myself!
