Photographing Birds with a Dwarf II

I mainly use my smart telescope for astrophotography but it has got functionality for tracking wildlife so I took it along to my local cliffs to try photographing birds with a Dwarf II.

The Dwarf II connects to your phone and you control it wirelessly. It is extremely easy to use and you can be up and running in seconds.

The Dwarf 2 was able to track the birds perfectly and I was able to record some lovely video footage of puffins, which is comparable in quality to my much more expensive Canon camera and lens.

As well as the video I took some photographs. The focal length is a little shorter than what I am used to but the photographs came out well. I would try adding an ND filter to get slightly better images in strong sunlight.

All-in-all the photographing birds with a Dwarf II is a pleasant experience. Especially, considering it costs a fraction of the digital camera and telephoto lens that you would typically use for this sort of photos. The tracking feature is also incredibly useful and it records very smooth video.

I also had a go at photographing birds in infrared with the Dwarf as well, which was a lot of fun.
